Therapeutic Approach

As licensed psychologists in Washington DC with more than 25 years of experience helping people cope with life more effectively, we have been trained in evidence-based psychotherapy methods that work. While we tailor my therapeutic services to meet clients’ needs and goals utilizing only the most appropriate strategies for each person and situation, there are some generalities that are common to all treatment modalities. These commonalities include the building of insight, education about the neurobiology of behavior, appropriate cognitive and behavioral strategies, and the healing experience of a collaborative and compassionate relationship.

The Change Process

People who are curious about themselves, open to learning more about their role in their world, and motivated to learn and implement new strategies typically have the most success working with us. Time between sessions is as important as time within sessions, as this is where the therapeutic work is tested and fine tuned. With ongoing awareness and curiosity, new perspectives and behaviors are identified and practiced until they become effective habits in your life. This growth gives way to increased confidence, more efficient coping, and feelings of happiness and satisfaction.

Individual Therapy

Individually we work with adolescents, adults, and seniors who are curious to understand more about themselves, and ready to unlock their inner strength towards creating the life they want. We help people identify their strengths, and uncover patterns that are holding them back from feeling the satisfaction and joy they want in life. This growing self awareness creates the foundation on which sustainable change can be built and is necessarily unique to each individual.

Couples Therapy

Whether you are in a long term relationship, or just starting out, couples therapy can help you strengthen your relationship with your partner. Communication skills are an early and consistent focus in our work with couples as well as identifying areas of conflict where both of you might be feeling stuck. Learning and practicing better communication skills helps set the foundation to uncover patterns that are holding you back from finding the happiness and satisfaction you both want.

Family Therapy and Parenting

Like with Couples Psychotherapy, emphasis is placed on improving communication skills, and understanding the patterns within the system that are keeping it stuck. With improved communication skills, these conflicts can be understood and reshaped such that more fulfilling interactions can prevail. Through this process, healthier relationships are established, and key interpersonal skills are learned to sustain these improvements.
