Can Sex Strengthen Your Relationship? – Video Panel for Your Tango

Screen Shot 2014-04-04 at 11.04.07 PM Keeping sex alive can sometimes be challenging – you might even wonder can sex strengthen your relationship, really. I was very pleased to sit in on this panel about how it absolutely can, along with ways to rekindle your desire if the fire is burning low.

Okay, we have to admit that we’re totally hopeless romantics. Just the thought of having a relationship where we get butterflies every single time we’re with our partner puts a smile on our face; it makes us want to believe that real love is all about connecting with someone without the physical. But one thing that people don’t realize is that sex actually plays a key in maintaining our relationships and making them last!

Anthropologist and Human Behavior Researcher Helen Fisher, YourTango Experts VP Melanie Gorman, Marriage and Family Therapist and Consultant SaraKay Smullens, Relationship Retreat Guide Mary Ellen Goggin, and Clinical Psychologist Dr. Alicia H. Clark definitely hit the nail on the mark when they discuss how being intimate with our partners helps keep our connection fresh. While talking is good, it’s important to remember that it’s natural to crave physical touch. From lying in each others’ arms at night or just holding hands, all of these little gestures can make us feel even more attached to our partners; all of these contribute to strengthening the bond between us and keeping our long-term relationship happy, healthy, and sexy. This goes without saying but if we want great sex, we have to actually have sex! Not only will it increase our already intense feelings for one another, it’ll bring us closer to together. What could be better than that?
